Resting Metabolic Rate Test:
Prior to your RMR test, there are a few important things to note:
You must complete a 5 - hour fast, prior to your RMR test. e.g. if your appointment is at 4pm, you must only drink water after 11am.
You must not consume alcohol or caffeine 5 hours prior to the test.
The use of stimulants such as nicotine (smoking), appetite suppressants, and allergy medication can affect your results.
You must avoid vigorous exercise at least 24 hours prior to the test.
Failure to meet these standards may result in an inaccurate result.
Attire for the test: No specific attire is required for the RMR test.
During the resting test, you simply breathe into the PNOE device for 10 minutes. The machine analyzes your breathing and reports total calorie burn and fuel utilization data (fats or carbs).
This test will let you know the caloric requirements you need based on your metabolic efficiency and your age and gender. Your report will provide you with information about the fuel sources your body uses during daily activities with percentages divided between fats and carbohydrates.
VO2 Max Test:
Prior to your VO2 Max test, there are a few important things to note:
Don't eat a large meal at least 2 - 3 hours prior to the test. If you are doing the VO2Max test after the RMR test, bring some type of carb source. Do not consume alcohol or nicotine 12 hours prior to the test. Do not consume caffeine 5 hours before the test.
The use of stimulants such as nicotine (smoking), appetite suppressants, and allergy medication can affect your results.
You must avoid vigorous exercise at least 24 hours prior to the test.
Failure to meet these standards may result in an inaccurate result.
Attire for the test: For the VO2Max test, comfortable gym clothes and running shoes for the treadmill and if you have clips for the bike test bring them, but they are not necessary.
During the VO2 Max Test, you will be fitted with the PNOE device and asked to choose between the stationary bike, rower, treadmill or assault bke for your active metabolism test. There will be an initial 5 minute warm-up and 5 minutes of stretching. There are 3 parts to the test itself, 3 minute warm-up, 9 - 12 minute ramp test and a 2 1/2 minute recovery. Each minute the test will become more difficult until you are too exhausted to continue your pace.
This test provides a breath-by-breath analysis of how much oxygen the body can absorb and the amount of CO2 expelled while exercising.
